watched, string bands new years night, after celebrating with the 17th in a row Championships by the MURRAY COMIC CLUB< Woodland was #1, South Philly, 2nd, Quaker City 3rd Ferko 4th, Fralinger 5th, hegeman 6th pa 7th ect.
My mom and I were disappointed in Ferko’s performance. I thought Avalon would get higher than 8th place this year. My family and I missed most of the performances because we were out, but the ones we did see I thought the bands did an amazing job.
I agree that Fralinger was visually fantastic. But the music was beyond me except for two small bits. My vote would be Hegeman, South Philly, and Polish American. Also how was Durning better than Duffy. They need all new judges so that we get a chance to have bands
make advancements.
I didn’t like Frailinger. Well, done, no doubt, but relying a bit too much on the “techno” stuff found in the Fancy Brigades. The music was well played, but …inacessible.
Ferko”s music was spectacular; the formations spot on, and the props were –just enough, and just perfect. And I could _understand_ the music. Greater Kensington should have been up higher in the order, in my opinion. South Philadelphia overall staging and performance was awesome, though I thought Ferko beat them out on the music.
My wife Susan and I want to express to “EVERYONE” from the “GREATER OVERBROOK STRING BAND” staff/band members, marshals and of course to all the people we have met for the hospitality & kindness we experienced each time we where in there presence. We would also like to personally thank MR RICH JOHNSON, for contacting the musical director at the ChiChester High School looking for young talented musicians like my son JESSE HOWER to participate in the GOSB…My son Jesse has been treated with nothing but respect and hospitality and because of our recent involvement with this awesome organization I’ll name just a few names I remember MR RICH JOHNSON, MR BILL RAZZANO, MR JOHN HICKS, MR CARMEN VITANZA & HIS SON..TO HIS FELLOW DRUMMING MEMBERS BOB & MIKE WHO SHOWED THERE SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT THAT MADE HIS TALENTS SHINE THROUGH …IF I DIDNT MENTION YOUR NAMES YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN “WE REMEMBER ALL OF YOU AND WE THANKYOU” …MY SON JESSE HAS ALWAYS SHOWED AN INTEREST IN MANY TYPES OF TRADITIONS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THERE CONTINUENCE AND UNDERSTANDS THE OPPORTUNITY HE WAS GIVEN AND HAS INSURED ME THAT HE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE TO HELP AND SUPPORT THE “GREATER OVERBROOK STRING BAND”
THANK YOU
MR & MRS Nelson Hower

The Judges obviously missed the greatest everyone else viewed and heard today. Polish American String Band did NOT give an 8th place performance; should at very least been in top three! You could distinctly hear each instrument, music compilation remarkable! Perhaps Judges had one too many last night!
Sorry….7th place☺
And congrats to Fralinger, Quaker City and South Philly String Bands — along with Polish American, the top four string bands of 2015 in this musician’s humble position! Happy New Year to all!

My first impressions after watching all the performances, my Top 5 – South Philly, Fralinger, Polish American, Quaker City & Woodland. After watching the shows about another 20 times, I’m sure it will change a bit. I thought it was a good year overall.
