About Mr. Mummer

I’m a proud Philadelphian and lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Mummers. I became a  fan of the Philadelphia Mummers on New Years Day 1985.  That was the first year I remember watching the parade with my mom, who was a big mummers fan. The moment I saw Fralinger String Band’s -Copa Banana at the 1987 Mummers Parade, I was hooked. In the following years, I would record the Mummers Parade on VHS and rent the tape to some of the string bands after the parade. As a kid, I took accordion lessons with the hopes of joining a string band, but stopped taking lessons after my mother became ill and passed away when I was 10 years old.

As I grew older, I became interested in technology and I went to college for computers and multimedia. On New Years Eve 2012 I asked my wife to marry me and took her to the 2013 Mummers Parade to celebrate our engagement. I was married on Broad St. and surprised my guests by having the Hegeman String Band play at my wedding.

Since I can’t play an instrument and my family situation prevented me from joining a mummers club as a youngster, I wanted to find a way I could use my talents as a technology expert to promote the Philadelphia Mummers tradition to a wider audience.
