There is an interesting story on Philly.com today about the role of women in the Mummers Parade designing costumes and gluing feathers. When I read the story about the “Girls of Mummer”, it reminded me of an interesting email I received about two women who will make history at the 2017 Mummers Parade. The email reads:
This year 2017 will mark the first time EVER in the History of the 117 year Mummers parade that 2 Women will be playing drums in the Parade.
The Duffy String band will have a Female Snare drummer and a Female Bass drummer. Never been done before in the History of the Parade
Updated: The two women who will be playing drums for Duffy next week in the 2017 Mummers Parade are:
Snare Drummer: Megan Flaherty
Bass Drummer: Katie Foley Anastasi.
I would like to congratulate Megan and Katie on a great accomplishment. Thank you to everyone who provided the names.
Good luck ladies, love to
You both!
Our Duffy Drumsticks Rock!!!!
Both ladies are performing at a high level and have it on lockdown. I’ve enjoyed my time working with both of them. Meg is my Dr. Beat!
Two of the best and talented women I have the pleasure of knowing.
Bass Drummer would be My talented and beautiful wife Katie Foley Anastasi.
Thank you for the original email.
I know Megan Flaherty will be playing snare for Duffy, not sure who the bass drummer is.
The bass drummer is Katie Foley.
Good luck girls!
Katie Anastasi is my bass drummer this year! Very excited!
