Happy 201st  birthday Adolphe Sax.  Adolphe Sax was a Belgian inventor and musician who is most known for inventing the saxophone in 1840. The saxophone is an integral part of the Philadelphia String Band sound. In fact, the saxophone is the predominant instrument among all String Bands.

The Fralinger String Band was one of the first bands to introduce the saxophone in the Mummers Parade. Saxophones add power and fullness to the string band sound.

Below are some string band clips that highlight the variety in which saxophones are used in the Mummers Parade.
