The Mummers Parade might be over, but the celebration hasn’t stopped. Tuesday night at SugarHouse Casino, PHL17 announced the winners of the 2019 Mummers Viewers’ Choice competition. Quaker City String Band took home the prize for favorite String Band and Avenuers won for favorite Fancy Brigade.

SugarHouse has been the title sponsor of the New Year’s Day Mummers Parade for the past eight years. As part of this community partnership, Philly’s casino hosted the annual fan-voted award ceremony in The Event Center and gave both winning clubs $2,500.

SugarHouse Casino also donated $2,500 to the Palandro-Ferry Memorial Foundation. The organization is a nonprofit memorial fund set up to honor South Philadelphia String Band members Denny Palandro Jr. and Joe Ferry, who were involved in a Jan. 2 accident. The foundation provides monetary scholarships and goodwill among the Mummers community.

“The Viewer’s Choice Awards are something Mummers embrace and SugarHouse is proud to support,” said Emily Costa, community relations manager for SugarHouse Casino.

Following the parade on Jan. 1, fans had the opportunity to vote online for their favorite String Band and Fancy Brigade on PHL17.com. Thousands of votes were submitted to select Quaker City String Band and Avenuers as the favorite performances in their respective categories.

“The fan vote has become a fun, interactive tradition to highlight our viewer’s favorite performances on New Year’s Day,” said Vince Giannini, general manager of PHL17.
