Below is an excerpt from a press release about the 2016 Mummers Mardi Gras event. The big news from the press release is that a total of $25,000 was raised for the Mummers String Band Association. That’s not a bad take considering there was issues about lack of sponsors for the 2016 Mummers Mardi Gras parade.

The mission to promote and preserve the Mummer’s tradition was accomplished at the 2016 Philadelphia Mummers Mardi Gras, which took place February 20 in the Manayunk neighborhood on Main Street. Unwavering support was received from local officials such as Congressman Robert Brady, State Representative Pam DeLisio, Councilman Curtis Jones, Deputy Commissioner for Programs Leo Dignam, and 5th District Police Captain John Moroney. Penn Beer Sales & Service also took a lead sponsorship for the third consecutive year.

The parade was watched by nearly 15,000 spectators who came to visit and join in the celebration of the Mummer’s Philly Mardi Gras 3rd annual tradition. A total of $25,000 was raised for the Mummers String Band Association thanks to the event’s successful turnout. Onlookers enjoyed the live performances of the finest string bands and welcomed sounds of the parade in the midst of a lovely 60-degree day. Mardi Gras beads could be seen draped from the necks of many and families with their children took part in entertaining activities such as photo booths, face painting, photo-ops, delicious food, and more.
